Drainage, Safety & Resurfacing of Hurffville-Grenloch Road

Gloucester County Freeholders announced today that the county will be utilizing $296,969 in State Aid funding to complete safety improvements to Hurffville-Grenloch Road (CR 635) between the Washington Township ball fields and Skelly Lane in Washington Township.

The project is being completed to improve roadway and roadside safety at an existing roadside ditch and a tributary to the Big Timber Creek.

The improvements include filling in an existing ditch and piping the stormwater via a proposed reinforced concrete pipe system.  New drainage inlets and culverts will be installed and the existing stream crossing will be upgraded.  Safety improvements such as new guiderail will also be installed at the stream crossing.

Some roadway widening will occur at the stream crossing and along the area of the existing ditch to provide a bicycle compatible paved shoulder. The roadway will also be resurfaced from the Washington Township recreational ball field complex to approximately Skelly Lane. The project will also include the installation of new long life traffic stripes, raised pavement markers along with the replacement of existing curb pieces with Eco Type heads and the installation of bicycle safe grates as needed. New concrete curbing will be constructed to replace existing deteriorated bituminous curb. Driveway aprons affected by the construction will be replaced.  

The project will begin construction on or about September 7, 2010. The roadway will remain open during construction.  Driveway aprons and local accesses to residences and businesses within the project limits shall be maintained. All work is anticipated being completed within 6 weeks.  South State Inc. is the contractor completing the project.
